A 48-hour collaborative sprint for water and regenerative hydrology.
This repository contains the source code for "Hydro Regen," a project born during the "Aquathon," an intense and exhilarating 48-hour weekend hackathon focused entirely on water and hydrology challenges.
More than just a technical project, Hydro Regen represents an incredible human adventure. Over the course of a single weekend, a large, interdisciplinary team of about ten individuals came together to tackle a shared challenge. We brought different backgrounds, varying fields of expertise, and unique perspectives into one room.
The true magic of this hackathon was the collaboration. Working with such a diverse group taught us how to bridge gaps between technical developers, designers, and domain experts. It required rapid communication, high adaptability, and the ability to align our varying skills toward a single, meaningful vision under a strict deadline. The energy in the room was palpable, and the shared passion for environmental topics drove us through the exhaustion of the 48-hour sprint.
Our project was deeply inspired by the concept of "regenerative hydrology," a paradigm introduced by Professor Karl Matthias Wantzen. Instead of merely managing or extracting water resources, regenerative hydrology focuses on restoring natural water cycles, revitalizing ecosystems, and working in harmony with nature.
Building a solution around this theme was deeply rewarding. It allowed us to step back from pure code and consider the broader ecological impact of technology, making the late-night coding sessions feel all the more purposeful.
While the human experience was the highlight, we also built a functional prototype to bring our vision to life.
The application provides an interactive web-based map designed to help users explore and select watersheds ("bassins versants"). Users can geolocate themselves, search for specific addresses, and manually draw polygons on the map to define custom zones.

Our teamwork and dedication culminated in an incredible finale. Out of more than 30 competing teams, our project was awarded 3rd Place overall.
Furthermore, we were incredibly honored to receive the "Coup de Coeur" (Jury's Favorite) award from the Office International de l'Eau (OiEau). This recognition validated not only our technical execution but the passion and interdisciplinary harmony our team brought to the concept of regenerative hydrology.
Hydro Regen is a testament to what a group of motivated, diverse individuals can accomplish in just a weekend. I am immensely proud of the technical result, but I am even more proud of the communication, resilience, and collaborative spirit that made it possible.
